TripTool

Terms of use

This is the text shown and accepted in the app (version 2026-10-18). Any change must be made in both places.

1. Informational tool only

TripTool is a trip-planning aid. It is not a safety device, a guide service, a navigation authority or an emergency service. Nothing in the app is professional advice.

2. Weather data

Forecasts come from third-party numerical models (e.g. ECMWF) processed automatically. Forecasts are estimates and may be wrong, incomplete, delayed or unavailable. Actual conditions can differ significantly, especially at sea, on the coast and in mountains.

3. Risk indicators

Colors, icons and risk levels are computed from user-adjustable thresholds. They do not rate the difficulty or safety of any route and are not a recommendation to go. A green indicator does not mean an activity is safe.

4. Assumption of risk

MOTORCYCLING, KAYAKING AND OTHER OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES ARE INHERENTLY DANGEROUS AND MAY RESULT IN SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH. YOU VOLUNTARILY ASSUME ALL SUCH RISKS. YOU ARE SOLELY RESPONSIBLE FOR YOUR DECISIONS, YOUR SKILLS, YOUR EQUIPMENT, AND FOR CHECKING OFFICIAL SOURCES (NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE, ENVIRONMENT CANADA, COAST GUARD, LOCAL AUTHORITIES).

5. Disclaimer of warranties

THE APP AND ALL DATA ARE PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE”, WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, INCLUDING MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, ACCURACY AND NON-INFRINGEMENT.

6. Limitation of liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, THE PUBLISHER SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR FOR PERSONAL INJURY OR PROPERTY DAMAGE ARISING FROM USE OF THE APP. TOTAL LIABILITY SHALL NOT EXCEED THE AMOUNT YOU PAID FOR THE APP IN THE 12 MONTHS BEFORE THE CLAIM, OR USD 50, WHICHEVER IS GREATER.

7. Release and indemnity

You release the publisher from claims arising from your activities and agree to indemnify it against third-party claims caused by your use of the app or breach of these Terms.

8. Binding arbitration and class action waiver (U.S. users)

Disputes will be resolved by individual binding arbitration, not in court, and not as part of a class or representative action. You may opt out within 30 days of first accepting these Terms by emailing [contact].

9. Governing law

These Terms are governed by [law to choose with counsel]. Some states and provinces, notably Quebec, do not allow certain exclusions or limitations; in that case they apply only to the extent permitted.

10. Acceptance

You accept these Terms by checking the box at first launch and by using the app.
